Overview

OpenLab - Laboratoires de démonstration de cristallographie

img

Abidjan OpenLab
Objective

In the framework of the Africa IUCr Initiative, the laboratory of Crystallography and Molecular Physics of the Félix Houphouet Boigny University (Ivory Coast) has been nominated by IUCr to be a Crystallography Center for Western Africa. Hence, our laboratory has received Bruker single crystal diffractometer, equipped with an Oxford Cryosystems low temperature and powder diffractometer, a collaborative grant from Bruker Company, IUCr, UNESCO. These two diffractometers are installed on the Bingerville campus since January 19th 2018 and therefore, our crystallography laboratory will serve as a hub for the Western African scientific community according to IUCr Africa Initiative rules. The official inauguration will be held on 22nd and 23rd march 2018 at the University followed by an openlab in Bingerville to teach how to use these diffractometers and solve Xray crystal structures. The opening lecture will be given by Prof. Dan Shechtman, Nobel Prize in Chemistry and well known. European crystallographers will give lectures on all facets of crystallography. During this inauguration, the foundation of the African Crystallography Association will be discussed. This openlab will bring together European lecturers and young African PhD, Postdoc and Assistants professors to learn crystal structures determination.
